UCSD Lab Tours
July 11 & 18, 2024
SD Girls in STEAM Club cooperated with UCSD once again, but this time it was with the UCSD Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) and the Engineering department. On the first day, we took students from Casa de Amistad to tour the labs in MRSEC, and they learned about nanoengineering and had the opportunity to see how some of the cool machines and lab equipment worked. On the second day, the students went to the labs in the Structural and Materials Engineering building, did fun math activities, and visited the Stuart collection.
Women in Healthcare Panel Discussion

President and Co-President of SD Girls in STEAM, Chloe and Ethan, led a panel discussion for the students at Casa de Amistad. Dr. Jolene Rudell, MD, PhD, Dr. Laura Scott, MD, FAAP, and Dr. Catherine Liu, MD, PhD, from the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego Health talked about their work, daily lives as a doctor, experiences as women in STEM, and how they got to where they are today as successful doctors.
